Myxomatosis

We vaccinate our rabbits from 6 weeks of age against myxomatosis.
Indoor and outdoor rabbits are both at risk and therefore both need vaccinated.

how the disease is spread

  • biting insects are carriers
  • contact with infected rabbits is not necessary

how often to vaccinate?

the people who make the vaccine recommend:
every 12 months in an area not classed as "high risk".

every 6 months in an area that is classed "high risk".

in the past few years the FIFE area has seen outbreaks of myxomatosis.
we recommend vaccinating every 6 months.
