The Nursing Staff
Trudy, Head Veterinary Nurse.
Trudy has worked for Ryan & Calder since 1986 and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1992. She is interested
in puppy and dog behaviour and does one to one appointments with puppies and their families. She is the nurse in charge of dealing with insurance claims. She has
a City and Guilds Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition. She owns a whippet, a boxer, numerous tropical fish and several Guinea Pigs.
Claire, Nursing Assistant.
Claire has been a member of his practice for many years now, after finishing an animal care course at Elmwood
Agricultural College where she came top of her year. She spends most of her time at the branch surgery in Dalgety Bay and knows most of her clients and pets by name.
At home she has two Guinea Pigs. UPDATE! August 2005: Claire
passed her Animal Nursing Assistant exams.
Angela, Student Veterinary Nurse.
Angela has worked here since 1996 and has embarked on her Veterinary Nurse training at Telford College in
Edinburgh. She has an African Grey parrot called Sammy and is very interested in parrot welfare and husbandry. Pet dentistry is an area in our practice that
Angela is keen to promote. Before working with us, she attended Elmwood College and also worked in a Pet shop specialising in reptiles and amphibians.
Yvonne, Qualified Veterinary Nurse.
Yvonne qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2001, after working since 1996, she decided the time was right to
go to college. At work she helps run weight watchers classes for pets! She has two dogs, a lovely black lab called Max and a German shorthaired pointer called Legend. She is
keen on gundog training but doesn't compete. You'll often find her at the gym working hard there too. In June 2004 she bought a new
yellow labrador puppy, called Forrest.
Tricia, Qualified Veterinary Nurse.
Tricia worked at Ryan and Calder for 9 years then moved to the NCDL rescue centre in West Calder. This
was followed by moves to a practice in London and then to Edinburgh Veterinary School before returning to Ryan and Calder in 1998. She has completed a City and Guilds
Certificate in the Nursing of Exotic Species. Having her D32/D33 assessor's qualification means she can assess the student nurses from this practice and placements from
Telford College. She lives with four cats.
Gillian, Qualified Veterinary Nurse.
Gillian qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2002 and has since achieved her certificate in Dental Leadership.
Radiography is also an area Gillian is particularly interested in within the practice. Gillian previously worked at Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre in Perthshire, before
starting with us at Ryan and Calder in 1996. Gillian is a keen husky racer and spends lots of her weekends on her rig being pulled by her energetic dogs.
Not contented with that she also has her own horse, Domino, who takes up most of her spare time.
Kerry, Student Veterinary Nurse.
Kerry is a 1st year student nurse who came to us via Telford College in Edinburgh. She started with us full time
in April 2004 but we have known her since 2001when she was completing her VN preparatory course at college. She lives at home with her 2 cats - Johnny Boy and Candy. She has
